Shelby & Pasquale's Seattle Engagement Session

Always the wedding photographer, never the bridesmaid? That had been the case for me until my beautiful sister-in-law asked me to be the maid of honor (matron?!) in her July 2015 wedding. I am so, so excited!! Last month they flew up to Seattle from Los Angeles for their engagement session, but no fear, I am happy to report that I will NOT be photographing their wedding! They have hired my friend, the talented Anita Martin Photography, for their big day so that I can do my matron of honor duties and be truly present for their wedding. We had typical Seattle weather for their session. In fact, it was raining so hard that we had a hard time being outdoors at all. Even with an umbrella the rain was blowing sideways and soaking all of us to the bone. Luckily we found some great covered areas down by Pike Place Market. Pasquale felt like he needed an adult beverage to loosen up so we stopped by a pub and happened to find a light filled little booth that overlooked the market sign! I love when that happens :) The next day the weather cleared up a bit so we ventured to the lighthouse at Discovery Park which is right down the street from my house. I am so glad we went out that 2nd day!

I had a great time with these two, as always, and am already counting the days until I get to put on a bridesmaid dress and stand next to Shelby as she marries the man of her dreams.

Britteny & Michael's Edgewood Hotel Wedding | Seattle, WA

They're from Texas. I live in Seattle. Like a good portion of my clients I had never met Britteny or Michael prior to their wedding but due to the fact that we follow each other on Instagram I felt like we already knew a bit about one another. They had planned a Seattle destination wedding and were joined by about 70 of their closest family and friends, none of whom were from Seattle! All day I was surrounded by warm southern accents and a dose of that southern hospitality that I've heard so much about. Britteny and Michael are both warm, outgoing people which I can see reflected in their photos. They laugh freely and they have fun freely. Together they arranged to grant us access to the Seattle Aquarium for photos after their first look. Seeing as how their wedding was in late October, we had no idea whether or not we'd be taking any photos outside so the interior of the aquarium was a safe bet. Lucky for us, there was no rain and we were able to do photos both indoors and out. The city of Seattle made for a unique backdrop for a couple who resides in a state that is very different in appearance. I wanted to give a special thanks to the Seattle Aquarium for opening the doors before a private event for us!

Lit by warm candlelight Britteny and Michael were married at the beautiful Edgewater Hotel. Immediately after the ceremony we were ushered upstairs into the room where the Beatles famously stayed during their first US tour. We were all walking around and remarking, "The Beatles were in this exact room! They fished out of this window!" - pretty cool!

The remainder of the night was filled with good food, good drink, and good company as well as the sounds of the talented Seattle Live Band. Late in the evening we were treated to a special performance by Michael himself. He has a wonderful voice and did the other Michael (the Buble one) proud.

Congratulations y'all! (can I pull that off?) :)
