Happy Mother's Day!

Over the last 4 years I've been able to photograph dozens and dozens of mothers with their children. In honor of Mother's Day, I'd love to share a few of my more recent favorites. I hope all of you mamas out there have a wonderful day!

And extra love and hugs being sent to Claire, one of my 2010 brides who just lost her amazing mother, Gayle, to cancer. Gayle was fighting it back in 2010 and I am so privileged to have met her and witness the special bond that she had with her two daughters.

Letters to Our Sons - May 2013

Dear Reid, We are in the final stretch of you being an only child. Just a handful of precious weeks left until you're finally a big brother. From day one you have been excited to welcome a new baby into our home. You kiss my belly goodbye and goodnight, you love resting your hand on it to feel your sister move and your eyes light up when she does, you are very opinionated on what her name should be, and you say to me, "Can I talk to your baby?". You have asked all of the hilariously awesome questions that one could come to expect from a 4 1/2 year old like, "How did the baby get in your belly?" "Where does the baby's milk come from?" "How does the baby come out?" Your daddy and I have responded with nothing but sheer delight and many giggles as you struggle to wrap your mind around such adult concepts. You have agreed to help change diapers, but "not poop diapers". You have agreed to share your room with your little sister when that time comes. You have agreed to be mommy's big helper when she is running out of energy after many sleepless nights. I am so, so excited to welcome a new baby in our lives and just as excited to see you blossom into a mature big brother. You may no longer my baby in the practical sense, but you will always be my baby.

Love, Mom

Melissa & Kris's Seattle Engagement Session | Golden Gardens

On the day of Melissa and Kris's engagement session Seattle was the warmest area in the country. Yes, you read that right. This is our first spring in Seattle and I have been warned that May and June are often chilly and grey, so to have a stretch of 10 days where it's sunny and warm is a real treat. I was even sporting a good sunburn from earlier in the day! I'm most at home shooting in warm sunlight and I am so thankful that we had that opportunity. When I scouted this location there weren't many people but by the time we arrived it was packed. PACKED packed. Santa Monica Pier in LA packed. Thankfully we all found parking and found little spots where we could be on our own. I definitely don't mind shooting with people in the background but I wanted a different feel for this session. I had never been to Golden Gardens before...lesson learned! Warm weather = busy. I will be photographing Melissa and Kris's wedding in January 2014 in Cle Elem - a wonderful (likely white) winter wedding! I think it's fun that their engagement and their wedding images will feel so different - one warm and sunny and one romantic and cold. We had so much fun and these two are wonderful in front of the camera - not afraid to laugh and play. What they did naturally without me asking is what I often times try to coax out of my clients. I know I've said it before but I'm a firm believer that people look most beautiful when they laugh.

Okay Seattle, stay this way for the next 5 months...please??

From Melissa: "Kris and I met at a Mariners' game two years ago when Kris was visiting Seattle to climb Mt. Rainier.  It was 80's night and his purple track suit caught my eye and once I got the courage to go talk to him we had an instant connection!  We have been together ever since that day and after a year and a half of long distance, Kris finally moved to Seattle in January.  He proposed on March 3rd 2013 while we were snowshoeing in the Cascades on a beautiful sunny day!"
